The commodity data lab
Explore retained inventories. Inspect a curve. Keep the source, units and assumptions with every result.
Compare the same calendar month.
Weekly observations are grouped by their period date. The comparator is the equal-weight mean of five prior annual monthly means. It is not EIA’s official weekly five-year comparison.
Chart legend: solid copper = selected year; dashed slate = five prior years’ monthly mean, when available. Values and counts appear in the table.

Separate the spread from carrying costs.
Both prices use one common currency per physical unit. This worksheet assumes simple funding, a constant storage cost and insurance over the interval. It excludes basis, fees, margins, convenience yield and execution constraints.
Inspect every input and assumption
A curve slope is not a roll return or investment return. A residual is not an executable arbitrage profit. Signed prices retain the absolute spread; price ratios require positive near and far prices.
